A spring called: Drop of water

Do you know what happens when a drop of water hits a non-absorbent surface? Yeah you're right (if you don't have the answer, please re-read the title of this column), the drop bounces upwards.A French scientific team from the Collge de France have studied the scene carefully with a camera that took 40000 images per second. Here are the results:At first, when it hits the surface, the drop flattens. Then, it bounces up due to the movement energy it had when falling down. The drop will continue going upwards eventually taking the shape of a needle. Afterwards, the drop falls upon itself, into itself.

It thus takes the shape of a pancake (again) but this time, the drop is in midair. This phenomenon is different to a drop falling on other surfaces as in this case, the drop crashes on the surface leaving only a small quantity of the water to bounce up.Physicists have also found out that the actual speed of a drop influences its deformation but not the time taken for it to get in contact with the surface. This actually depends upon the mass of the drop.Anyway why is all this stuff important anyway? Scientists believe that this find may be of interest to the industry. There's a small illustration:Imagine not seeing droplets of rain on your car's windscreen when it is in fact raining cats and dogs outside. Cool, isn't it? Well this may well be possible with these new data obtained by the scientists from the Collge de France. How though? Easy enough! The period of contact of the raindrops with the windscreen is so minimal that the driver does not even see them!Water drops bounces like springs, would you ever have thought of this? No, I'm not sure you would..

(NC)-Maintaining proper skin-care habits to prevent dry skin throughout the year can go a long way toward keeping your skin moisturized during the harsh winter months. To avoid developing problems, take steps early.Although it can happen at any time of the year, dry skin is usually worse during colder periods when the humidity is low. Cold winds can actually 'pull' water from your skin and the air inside your home can get even drier because of the heating system.Dry skin can be very itchy and your natural reaction is to scratch. But scratching or even rubbing can aggravate the problem. Using a moisturizer like Uremol, which contains urea, a proven effective moisturizing factor and a recognized exfoliating agent to soften the skin, can help take the irritating 'itch' out of skin during cold weather conditions.

In fact, these are the reasons why Uremol has become the number one physician recommended treatment for dry skin in Canada. Many creams and lotions are also available at...

Different Types of Swimming Pool Heaters

Many people are choosing swimming pool heaters in order to extend the swimming season after summer. A heater is fantastic to own, particularly with colder days.

With a swimming pool heater, you can adjust the temperature of the water to almost any level that you are happy with. The suggested temperature for pool water is 78 degrees, even though the majority of people prefer to have their water just a bit warmer, approximately 80 degrees.

When summer ends and weather begins to cool off, a pool heater can make swimming last longer. If you live in the north, you can double your swimming season.

If you live in warmer climates (Arizona and California) you can triple the amount of swimming by using a pool heater.

If you are using a swimming pool heater or plan to use, you should also buy a swimming pool cover. A cover will protect against loss of heat from the pool. A good cover that has plenty of insulation can greatly reduce the amount...

Marine Marketing Releases Its Fourth Revolutionary Boat Alarm Product in 8 Months?BilgeMonitor Bilge Alarm & Engine Room Monitoring System.

The dangerous necessity of stopping a vessel while underway at sea to open and enter the engine room to investigate noises, helm mounted bilge activity warning lights, etc. is virtually eliminated through the use of BilgeMonitor.
The sensitive sensors provide the valuable advance warning of a potentially flooding engine room that can result in providing precious time to correct intruding water before the vessel is lost.Through the use of unique Water Spray Sensors strategically located in the boat's engine room and a non-mechanical High Bilge Water Level Sensor, BilgeMonitor will provide a 107db alarm for any water intrusion from failed water hoses or fittings in the boat's engine room.
Upon hearing the alarm siren, or whenever desired to simply "check the engine room", the vessel captain simply activates the InfraRed Camera(s) in the engine room by a small helm mounted control panel and can view the engine room and bilge area on a 5.6" Flat Panel Color Display mounted...

Colossal Central Florida Water Rates Inspires WaterRateCrisis.com

The ambitious new hosting company, HostsCom.com (www.hostscom.com), announced today that it has provided unlimited storage space and server access to a large group of Central Florida residents that are outraged by water bills that have exceeded $476 in one month.
Orlando area home buyers find out after they move to the hamlet of Chuluota that Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) allows the local water company to charge more than twice the cost for water and wastewater than other local areas that are already considered expensive.
In many cases, residents are forced to pay up to 600% and more of the water bills at their previous address. In early 2004, the newest homeowners began to compare their water bills and discovered that Chuluota residents have been fighting the unfair and noncompetitive rates for almost a decade.
In 1996, Florida Water Services convinced the FPSC that it needed the...
